The Story of the Land of Ween

By: A. Nonperson

This story was written for a 9 year old girl who was just beginning her study in magick.  She and her mother read the story together after discussing the fae.  They then went to the back yard on the night of the full moon and brewed some tea.  The poured several glasses (the extras being for the fae guests) and then the girl was asked to invite the fae to tea.  Their backyard is a very magickal place and is very private and wooded.  Just beyond the property line is a part of the Metropark system for their area which is also all wooded.  Since the backyard already contained a Medicine Wheel, they were able to see, and still do, the faerie folk of the Land of Ween......

There was a time when all worlds existed together. There were no lands of myth or that were forgotten, and this is a tale of what happened to make that oneness disappear.

It seems that long ago as humans began to define themselves they placed a high value on things they could touch and own. Within the world at that time were many things of magic and wonder. Whole nations of people existed that were specialists in the realm of mystical things. Humans, as they began to gather wealth and power, had little use for the likes of those whose lives were spent chasing rainbows or playing in the fields of clover. Humans had even less use for witches, wizards, or all the others whose lives were centered in magic. The two cultures slipped away from each other and there seemed to be room for both so no major problems were foreseen. But that was not to be. It seems that some of the more evil humans chose to use the talents of those whose magic they were able to buy or in some other way control. These humans of evil were inclined to use the focus of magic to add to their power and wealth. Wizards like Merlyn and others in other lands were forced to use the secrets they had worked so hard to learn for the benefit of those they neither liked nor trusted. It was during this time that the fairies and elves and oh so many more had all but forgotten that they shared the earth with man. The carefree spirits that now were being kidnapped and taken to become servants of the rich and powerful soon understood that much of what they were and believed was in serious trouble. In an effort to save themselves, they retreated deep into the woods or other areas man seldom went. At first they created zones of enchantment that were supposed to scare humans of evil away. But as time passed, the need for wealth and power overcame the fear of the enchanted zones and once again humans sought out and used the power of those who had magic.

The situation had become so troublesome that there came a time when all those who were of the Ween, which is what the areas of magic had now become known as, got together and had a mass meeting. Each group had the right to speak and one by one they all echoed the same thing. The time, it seems, had come to divide the world in two. They all agreed to focus the skills they had in magic to create a wall between the world of human's and theirs. For many days and several nights the wizards and witches and all the others did chants and spells to divide the world in two. Some had chosen to stay in the human's world, but understood that they would lose what magic they had. For them they would now be mortal and have only the memory of the Ween.

Once done, the myths and legends were born of the memories that lingered within the minds of those who chose the world of humans. But the Ween is still there in spite of human's unseeing eyes. And if there are those who wish to be a visitor to the land of the Ween, that is possible provided the heart is true and the spirit is willing to fly. So if you wish to visit the place of magic you can, but nothing can be brought back from there. The Ween has set the rule that way to protect the magic and those who live the life of enchantment.

Now if you think you have seen the Ween but are not really sure, then you undoubtedly are a descendent of those who lived in the Ween but chose to leave and live in man's world, for these folk have free passage to the Ween. But if you wish to just visit there I will tell you how. You'll need to have the right stuff for the magic that will unlock the land of the Ween. You'll need a tea of nature's brew that should represent the truth of your heart and soul. It is recommended that this brew be jasmine or hibiscus, but a blend of herbs can be used. You'll need to choose a time as well when the moon is full, as that we all know is a magical night in itself. And you'll need a place to cast your spell that is not one built or created by man. Choose a site that is of nature, a woods or open space. Take the time to visit it several times before you attempt to visit the Ween and become in touch with the energy and beauty that exists in the place you have chosen.

When the moon is full and low in the sky, brew your tea over an open fire and allow it to steep well. Then tend the fire to insure it will give off a soft glow that will invite the spirits to come forward. Find a spot on which to sit and pour several cups of tea. Then open yourself to their world and speak low as you invite them in. Bare in mind that they are shy and oft will not reply. The first attempt may find them watching, as they have been tricked before. Even though they do not appear, speak to them as if they had, for the words you choose will aid them in understanding your intent. But after each attempt they will come closer and at last will join you in the glow of your fire and share your tea, but make no fast moves as they will run and hide.

I wish you well if you should try to visit the other side of our world and I hope that you succeed for one thing we all need is to bring back the magic.....
